Orders for CSA Pastures are due this Saturday, September 8!
We are writing this reminder for our delivery coming up on Thursday, September 13. The order deadline is on Saturday, September 8 at midnight. We thank you for indulging us this extra day for preparation of the orders as the number of farms we coordinate with has increased and the number of orders has increased as new CSAs are phoning us to see how we can fit them in our routes each month. We thank you for all the support through the winter months. We can feel the surge of the BUY LOCAL consumer response to the corporate food blunders and additives we cannot pronounce and extensive travel for the food they offer and feel that soon we may need to find more farms and encourage more start-up farmers to participate in growing the foods for our region. Thank you, we love our farm life, as busy as it can be at times!
Sheep’s milk yogurt alert!

this week’s
HARVEST
Note: The contents of the veggie boxes can change, depending on the day of the week. We update the below veg list almost daily to reflect the next day’s deliveries. Keep this in mind if you’re looking at the list more than one day before your delivery.
Romano or Green Beans
Qty: 1 lb bag
Garlic
Qty: 2 heads
Red Tomatoes
Some of you will be receiving very ripe tomatoes, and some will receive slightly under-ripe ones. If your tomatoes are a deep red (ripe) and you won’t be eating them tonight, you can put them in the fridge so they won’t start rotting. We recommend bringing them back to room temperature before eating them. If your tomatoes are under-ripe, you should leave them out on the counter until the turn a deep red (but not soft!).
Qty: 5 pieces
Cherry Tomatoes
Be sure to remove these from the plastic bag when you get them home. Put in bowl and allow to ripen on the counter. Then eat right away!
Qty: 1 1/2 pints
Basil
Qty: 1 bunch
Potatoes
Red Gold or Yellow Variety
Qty: 2 lb
Lettuce
Qty: 3 small heads

FRUIT SHARE
Peaches
Qty: 1 bag
Akane or Ginger Gold Apples
New varieties to tickle your taste buds.
Qty: 1 bag
How to ripen fruit…
Apples and Peaches should be removed from the plastic bag and allowed to ripen in a paper bag, or out in the open air. If you leave them in the plastic, they will rot before they ripen.

Below is the most recent news from the Lewis Waite Farm! A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to stop by the farm (you can see a few of the pictures on the flickr bar above and this one left). The haying was in full swing at this time, David and I witnessed a pig feeding frenzy, and got a spectacular tour of the grounds (not to mention some dinosaur-sized cucumbers and green peppers from Nancy’s garden!). It’s a beautiful farm and Nancy and Alan say they are always open to visitors (with beds or camping space to spare!). I highly recommend going out to the farm if you get the chance one weekend and taking a look around. Just give a call ahead! News from the farm follows…
