Green Drinks for Queens
Hi friends,
Many of you know me as the enthusiastic starter of things and fervent admirer of all things Queens. I will try not to disappoint here.
After going to Green Drinks hosted by the Queens Botanical Garden this past summer, I was inspired to start a full fledged Green Drinks for Queens. As you may or may not know, Green Drinks is a once a month function where folks from the environmental world can gather in an informal way to mix, mingle, meet, share info, and make new connections and friends. Currently there are Green Drinks happening regularly in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and in other cities throughout the world.
But what about Queens? We are a green borough with the parks, trees, beaches, green businesses, cyclists, kayakers, professionals, volunteers and more to prove it.
Let’s get out and meet each other to cross pollinate ideas and networks at Queens Green Drinks ! Queens Green Drinks will:
- Meet once a month at a Queens based location starting in January 2008 (dates TBD)
- Be hosted each month by a different individual, group, organization or business who will choose their Queens location of the month
- Be fun! It’s not mandatory to come to every Queens Green Drinks but we would like to get to know you (yes all of you) as part of our green community of Queens.
As this is a brand new venture, please read on and help to take some important action steps if you can! Help Queens Green Drinks get off the ground by:
1. Sending your e-mail address to lets_meet@queensgreendrinks.org if you are interested in receiving regular updates and announcements.
2. Letting others know about Queens Green Drinks! Don’t keep it a secret. If you can, please FORWARD this e-mail to other friends, family, co-workers, and organizations you think might be interested.
3. Hosting one session of Queens Green Drinks! Are you part of a group or organization that might be interested in hosting the event for one month? Hosting would include picking a venue that would be willing to accommodate about 15 - 40 people and perhaps bringing an item from your group for show and tell.
4. Helping me with some of the administrative parts of Queens Green Drinks, including managing subscribe lists, creating a website, finding/scouting potential locations, documentation, and doing more of getting the word out there action.
