This is not directly related to the food we eat, but our effects on the environment of Appalachia from strip mining used in coal power plants. There are staggering aerial photos and an incredible tool where you can enter your Zip code and it will show your local connection to a power plant and the mine(s) that supply it. There are also of course links to help you take action to stop this practice. I highly recommend that everyone visit this site, it makes incredibly vivid our connection to strip mining and the devastation it creates. Then go to the Con Ed website and switch your power supply to green energy!
