Changes to Fruit Share 2008

Fruit share details 2008-
Some changes will be made in 2008 to the Briermere Farm fruit share delivered by the Golden Earthworm Farm. In order to add flexibility and hopefully improve upon the fruit share the changes will occur as described below.
-In previous years a weekly amount of fruit was chosen to equal a defined weekly dollar amount, i.e. 2 portions berries, or 1 portion berries and 1 portion peaches, or 1 portion pears and 1 portion apples, as examples. At certain times there was too much fruit in a given week because we had a fixed amount for a portion. Apple, pear, and yellow peach portions were at least 3.5 pounds each so when there were 2 portions in a week it was often more than people could eat before the next delivery.
-In 2008 there will not be a defined poundage or portion amount per week. For each item in the fruit share there will be a defined price (listed below). As we make deliveries each week we will keep track of the dollar amount delivered per share. The fruit share will extend until we have reached the total dollar amount of the fruit share. This will most likely be as long or longer than the 16 weeks that we delivered fruit in past years. Instead of quantities of fruit being up to 7 pounds (3.5 lbs plus 3.5 lbs) in a given week as in the past, the most it would be is 5 lbs.
-Prices for the various fruits in 2008 are as follows:
Apples, pears, yellow peaches-$1.50 lb
Nectarines, white peaches, ufo peaches, plums - $1.75 lb
Blueberries(pint), blackberries(1/2 pint), raspberries(1/2 pint) -$4
