Head over to the Organic Consumers Association to find out how you can take action against the FDA’s decision to push cloned meat and dairy products into our supermarkets and schools. The real question: who did Agribusiness fund to get this passed?!
Find other actions you can take in food and agriculture here.
As if you needed another reason to join a CSA, did you know food prices are expected to increase dramatically in 2008? Some folks look at CSA’s as buying food futures. Hey, whatever it takes for you to eat better food at a reasonable price, so be it. More articles on the topic can be found here, here, here and here.

Astoria CSA Members:
Welcome to the 2008 season!
A few house cleaning issues before you register:
We are so excited to open our membership for the 2008 season. This year promises to be bigger than our last with 150 shares available to us and a grant from Citizens Committee for NYC to help support low-income shares. As many of you know, we are working with ARROW Recreation Center to change the location of our distribution next season. With this move we’ll have more space and hope to make a larger presence in the greater Astoria community. Read the rest of this entry »

I was snooping around Hellgate CSA’s website and found their posting on local organization, Build It Green. If you’re looking to use recycled materials on a building project, grab a new couch, or a place to donate materials, check it out (more information and address after the drop). They also have an electronics/battery recycling center for the public.
From their website:

A letter from Nancy up at Lewis Waite. Remember to get your orders in by January 7 th for the next delivery on January 12.
January, ah January! The air is crisp, the ground is white and fluffy, and the Arctic air is coming again soon – just as we all seem to be fairly acclimated to the milder daily temperatures. Over the past week we had a few storms and about a foot of new snow. The skiing at Bromley Mountain in VT was beautiful – I actually took a day off and kicked up my heels. Today around the house the snow is perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The dogs are making tracks encircling the house and barns and up to the doghouses. The cats have a track to the bird feeder area for their favorite winter activity of bird watching. The sledding would be a real thrill from the top of the hill. We are a bit afraid the sled could not be steered around the fences and stonewalls! Read the rest of this entry »
