The Golden Earthworm Organic Farm

The Golden Earthworm Organic Farm is nestled on 40 acres of pristine farmland protected by a land preservation program on the North Fork of Long Island. The farm was stared in 1996 by Matthew Kurek, a chef-turned-farmer with a passion for growing beautiful, high quality organic produce for the local communities of Long Island. Today, Matthew runs the farm with long-time friend and fellow farmer James Russo, and his wife, green designer Maggie Wood. Together, they grow over fifty different varieties of vegetables exclusively for Community Supported Agriculture programs. GEF supplies our CSA with its base share of weekly produce.

Lewis Waite Farm

In addition to the standard vegetable share from Golden Earthworm, we are very happy to offer the services of the Lewis Waite Farm. The farm raises grass-fed, GMO-free, antibiotic-free beef and pork. But the farm does much more, too. They also contract with eight other upstate farms to deliver hundreds of products packaged especially for you, from handmade bread and raw-milk cheeses to honey and jams and ducks and turkey. Here’s how it works: Members should visit http://www.csapasturedmeatandpoultry.com/, and sign in using the Astoria CSA login information. Use their online ordering system, or fax or phone in your order, and pay with PayPal or by check when you pick up. The farm delivers to ARROW Community Center during the regular season at our regular Thursday pickup (once a month). Your order will be especially packaged and labeled for you. Your order and payment is directly with the farm. Astoria CSA just serves as the convenient pickup location.

Briermere Farms

farmstand2

Briermere Farms of Riverhead, Long Island, is the source of our low-spray fruit share. Because of Long Island’s humid climate it is very difficult to grow organic fruit (especially tree fruit). Most fruit farms spray pesticides in a two-week cycle, ignoring conditions on the farm. Briermere takes special care to monitor their fruit for bugs and fungus and only sprays when necessary. Golden Earthworm believes in this farm’s practices.
